Androy Hotel

Manufacturer: Shenango China
User: Hotel Androy
Distributor: Joesting & Schilling Co., St. Paul
Date of creamer: 1925 - 1930s
Notes: The nine-story Androy, located in Superior, Wisc., opened in 1925 on Tower Avenue and is not to be confused with the better-known Androy in Hibbing, Minn. It is believed that both hotels were owned at one time – and named – by the same men, Andrew Doran and Roy Quigley, hence the name Androy.

On March 18, 1960, then-Senator John F. Kennedy gave a speech at the Androy. Today (2008), the hotel is owned by the Regner Hotel Corporation and is still in business as a clean, low-cost hotel set in Superior’s downtown bar scene, with the Androy Lounge serving as a popular karaoke destination and Papa Don’s Androy Restaurant serving pizza. Here’s a link showing one of the Androy’s rooms today.
