Notes: This historic hotel opened in July 1926 on the newly completed Redwood Highway, overlooking the Eel River, Garberville, California. It was a popular stopping point for people driving the coastal Redwood Highway. The secluded Hotel Benbow (as it was originally known) was also an attraction for the early Hollywood elite -- Spencer Tracy, Clark Gable, Alan Ladd, Charles Laughton, Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald, Joan Fontaine, Basil Rathbone were all patrons of the Inn. It is a Four Diamond hotel, still in existence as of 2010.
