Christos G. Bastis came to the United States in 1922 and opened the Sea Fare Restaurant in 1941 on West 8th Street. He later moved it to West 56th Street and renamed it Sea Fare of the Aegean. He also was also a collector of ancient art. He died in 1999. The restaurant has been closed for many years and replaced by a succession of restaurants in that location. Actor James Spader spent time at the restaurant working as a busboy.
