Biltmore - Providence, RI

Manufacturer: Hutschenreuther
User: The Biltmore - Providence, RI
Date of Platter: 1935
Notes: Located at 17 Dorrance Street in Providence, RI, the 17-story, 600-room Providence Biltmore opened it glamorous doors in June 1922. Home of hot jazz and the big bands, this hotel has been the center of society in Providence. It survived the Hurricane of 1938, and thumbed it's nose at Hurricane Carol in 1954, when there was 8 feet of water in the lobby, and couches were floating near the front door!

The hotel closed its doors in 1974 and was then purchased by a group of Providence businessmen in 1979 and restored. Walls were knocked down to make for larger rooms (244) and 23 grand suites. The hotel is going strong in 2008. Click here for the Providence Biltmore website.
